Week 4 Anatomy
Intro to tissues
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What are the 4 main types of tissues? | Epithelial Connective Muscle Nervous |
| where is Epi located? (Prefix) | Above, upon (Epidermis- outer layer) |
| Where is Hypo located? (Prefix) | Below, Deficient (Hypodermic- Beneath skin) |
| Where is Peri located? (Prefix) | Around (Pericellular- Around cell) |
| Where is Endo located? (Prefix) | Within (endothelium- inner lining of blood vessels) |
| What is Strat ? (Prefix) | Layered (stratified epithelium - Multi- layered epithelial tissue) |
| What is Derma? (Suffix) | Skin condition (scleroderma- thickening of the skin) |
| What is Oma? (Suffix) | Tumor, swelling( Melanoma- skin cancer originating from melanocytes) |
| What is Itis? (Suffix) | Inflammation (dermatitis - inflammation of the skin) |
| What is Plasia? | Growth, Formation (Hyperplasia-excessive cell growth) |
| What is epithelial tissue? | Covers body surfaces, lines organs and cavities. Main job = protection, absorption, secretion. |
| What is connective tissue? | Supports, binds, and protects. Includes bone, blood, fat, tendons, cartilage. |
| What is muscle tissue? and the Types? | Contracts to cause movement. Types: Skeletal, Cardiac, Smooth. |
| What is nervous tissue? | Sends electrical signals. Found in brain, spinal cord, nerves. |
| What are the layers of epithelial tissue? | Simple = 1 layer Stratified = many layers Pseudostratified = looks layered, but isn’t |
| What shapes do epithelial cells come in? | Squamous = flat Cuboidal = cube Columnar = tall |
| What is the matrix in connective tissue? | The stuff between the cells—can be liquid (blood), gel (fat), or solid (bone). |
| What is a membrane? and the Types? | Thin sheet of tissue that lines or covers./Mucous, Serous, Cutaneous, Synovial. |
| What is regeneration vs. fibrosis? | Regeneration = cells regrow normally Fibrosis = scar tissue forms |
