| ostensibly | apparently but perhaps not actually a fact |
| arid | can either mean dry, like a desert OR something that is boring and meaningless. |
| poignantly | in a way that evokes a keen sense of sadness or regret. |
| retribution | punishment inflicted on someone as vengeance for a wrong or criminal act. |
| bravado | a bold manner or a show of boldness intended to impress or intimidate. |
| fury | wild or violent anger. |
| perverse | showing a deliberate and obstinate desire to behave in a way that is unacceptable, often in spite of the consequences. |
| squalor | the state of being extremely dirty and unpleasant, especially as a result of poverty or neglect. |
| incongruency | in a way that is not in harmony or keeping with the surroundings or other aspects of something. |
| contrition | the state of feeling remorseful |
| stoicism | accepting what you cannot control and focusing on what you can |
| turbulence | violent or unsteady movement of air or water, or of some other fluid. Can also mean a time of conflict or confusion. |
| amorphous | without a clearly defined shape or form. |
| elusive | something, someone, or even a thought that is difficult to find, catch, or achieve. |

| uproariously | something done in a way that is extremely noisy and boisterous, often accompanied by a great deal of laughter and shouting |
