TermDefinition
laws the system of rules which a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and which it may enforce by the imposition of penalties.
Morals a person's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do.
Civil disobedience a deliberate and public refusal to obey a law or laws deemed unjust
Statutes a written law passed by a legislative body.
Common law: the body of law primarily developed through judicial decisions rather than statutes.
Legal code a systematic collection of written laws
Crime behavior that is punishable as a public offense
Criminal law the branch of law that defines crimes, the actions or omissions that are illegal
Civil law a system of law that primarily focuses on disputes between individuals, organizations
Delinquent refers to failing to fulfill an obligation, duty, or law
Equity a system of legal principles that operates alongside common law and statutory law.
Injunction a judicial order that restrains a person from beginning or continuing an action threatening or invading the legal right of another
Bail the temporary release of an accused person awaiting trial,
Indictment a formal charge or accusation of a serious crime.
Arraignment a formal court proceeding where a defendant is informed of the charges against them
Parole a system where prisoners are conditionally released from prison before their full sentence is served, under the supervision of a parole officer
