Esophagus (Oesophagus) Function: connects the mouth with the stomach to continue digestion; mechanical digestion through peristalsis Contents: rings of circular muscle tissue Location: Thoracic Region, anterior to the Spine, between C5 to T11
Stomach Function: mechanical mixing & chemical breaking of food Contents: Gastric Acid and Enzymes- Amylase, Maltase, Lactase, Lipase, Sucrase & Protease Location: Abdominal Region, Anterior to the Abdominal Aorta, Between the Sixth and Eight Rib
Liver Function: (Exocrine) production of bile into the GB, (Endocrine) production and release of Insulin & Glucagon into the bloodstream; Metabolization of Nutrients; Glucose & Vitamin Storage Location: Abdominal Region, Inferior to the Diaphragm
Gallbladder (GB) Function: stores & releases Bile from the Liver into the Duodenum Contents: Bile Location: Abdominal Region, Inferior & Ipsilateral to the Liver, Superior to the Transverse Colon
Pancreas Function: (Exocrine) release of highly enzyme rich fluid with bicarbonate into the Duodenum; (Endocrine) hormone secretion in the bloodstream; the enzymes perform Chemical Digestion Location: Abdominal Region, Inferior to the Stomach
Small Intestine Function: absorbtion of most substances; mechanical digestion through peristalsis; connection to large intestine Contents: (Segmentations) Duodenum, Jejunum & Ileum Location: Abdominal Region, inferior to the stomach, anterior to the abdominal Aorta
