fixator muscle (joint stabilizers) maintain posture or balance during contraction of prime movers of joints in the legs and arms
extrinsic muscle "from the outside" originate in the forearm and outside of skeleton, pull on the insertions of the wrist, hand, and fingers to move
intrinsic muscle "from within" located within the part moved, begin and end at different points within the hand
central nervous sytem (CNS) (brain and spinal cord) integrates incoming sensory information, evaluates information, and initiates outgoing response
peripheral nervous system (PNS) (nerve tissues of outer region of NS) form incoming and outgoing pathways
autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulates involuntary effectors (subconscious regulation of body functions)
endocrine system regulation of effectors to maintain homeostasis
peripheral resistance
