TermDefinition
Tendon A strong tough cord continuous at its other end with the fibrous periosteum covering a bone.
Extrinsic "Front the outside" and refers to muscle orginating outside the part of the skeleton moved
Intrinsic "From within" refers to muscles that are actually within the part moved.
Neurons excitable cells that conduct the impulses that make possible all nervous system functions
Glia usually do not conduct infromation themselves but support the function of neurons in various ways
Cerebrospinal Fluid A cushion of fluid that surrounds and protects brain and spinal cord against injury
Choroid plexuses network of capillaries that project from the pia mater into the lateral ventricles and into the roods of the third and fourth ventricles
Sensory receptors responds to stimuli caused by changes occuring in our external or internal environment
Artery vessel that carries blood away from the heart
Vein vessel that carries blood toward the heart
Capillary microscopic vessel that carries blood between arteries and veins and permits exchange of substances between the blood and surrounding tissue
Lymph clear, watery-appearing fluid found in lympahtic vessels
Interstitial fluid fills the spaces between cells
Upper respiratory tract composed of nose, nasopharynx, oropharynx, laryngopharynx and larynx
Lower respiratory tract consists of the trachea, all segements of bronchial tree, and lungs
