Hair Nails and Glands

| Pili | Scientific term for hair |
| Hair Shaft | Part of hair that is above the skin's surface |
| Hair Follicle | Tunnel that hair grows from in the dermis/epidermis |
| Terminal Hair | Darker thicker hair found on the scalp, in eyebrows/eyelashes, axillary/pubic regions, and the facial and body hair of adult males |
| Vellus Hair | Peach Fuzz", found on the face, arms, legs, and stomach. Can turn into terminal hair during puberty. |
| Nail plate | The fingernail |
| Eponychium | The cuticle- layer of skin along the bottom of a nail |
| Nail bed | Pinkish-colored soft tissue underneath the nail plate |
| Exocrine Glands | Glands that make a substance and secretes them to the body surface |
| Eccrine Glands | Most common type of sweat gland, used for cooling the body |
| Apocrine Glands | Sweat glands that become active during puberty, are found in the axillary/pubic regions, and do very little to cool the body. |
| Ceruminous | Modified apocrine glands that produce ear wax |
| mammary Glands | Modified apocrine glands that produce milk |
