Epithelial Tissues Classifications
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Transitional Tissues | A tissue made of many different types of cells which makes it great for stretching and returning back to normal shape. |
| Simple Columnar Tissues | all, closely-packed, single-layered tissue that lines the digestive tract with mucus and absorbs nutrients |
| Simple Cuboidal Tissues | Box-like, single-layered tissue that is good for secretion and absorption in glands and kidney tubules |
| Simple Squamous Tissues | Thin, single-layered tissue that allows for diffusion of gasses in the lungs and blood vessels |
| Stratified Cuboidal Tissues | Very rare tissue type made of many layers of box-like cells. These tissues are found in sweat and mammary glands. |
| Stratified Squamous Tissues | Tissues made of many layers of flat cells which makes a protective layer in the skin, mouth, and esophagus |
| Stratified Columnar Tissues | Rare type of tissue found in the pharynx and male urethra. |
| Psuedostratified Columnar Tissues | Type of tissue with a single layer of tall cells. These tissues also often have cilia to propels materials through the trachea and Fallopian tubes. |
