What 2 parts make up Congress? The House and the Senate
What does Congress do? Regulates trade, taxes citizens, coin money, and declares war.
Is the House represented by population or is it equal across all states? Population
How many members are currently in the House? 435 Members
How many representatives are there by population? 1 representative per 600,000 people
What does the House do? Creates laws around taxes and spending along with starting an impeachment on the president or any other offical.
Is the Senate represented by population or is it equal across all states? Equal across all states
How many members are currently in the Senate? 100, 2 per state
What does the Senate do? Approves presidental appointments and treaties, and ties the impeachment of officials
What is a law? A rule or set of rules that is established and enforced by a government to regulate behaviour within a society
What is the first step in creating a new law? A member of the House or Senate comes up with an idea which is called the bill
What is the second step in creating a new law? The proposal gets reviewed by a committee of Congress
What is the third step in creating a new law? After it is approved by the committee, the House and the Senate will vote on it.
What is the fourth step in creating a new law? If it gets a majority vote on both the House and the Senate, the president will review it.
What happens if the president approves of the bill? That bill will become a new law.
If the president vetoes the bill, what does Congress need to do to override the president's power and turn the new bill into a law? Congress needs a 2/3 vote to turn the vetoed bill into a law.
