TermDefinition
Anatomical Position The body is standing erect, face forward , with the upper limbs at the side, palms facing forward, with feet forward
Superior Body part above another or that is closer to the head
Inferior Body part that is below another or further from the head
Anterior (ventral) Towards the front
Posterior (Dorsal) Towards the back
Medial Towards the midline of the body
Lateral Away from the midline of the body
Proximal Towards the truc, or the point of origin from a body part
Distal Away from the trunk or point of origin of a body part
Deep Further within the body
Sagittal plane A cut made lengthwise, longitudinal plane of the body, dividing the body into right and left
Transverse plane Horizontal plane dividing the body or organ into superior and inferior parts
Frontal/ Coronal plane A cute made along a lengthwise plane that divides the body into anterior and posterior parts
