Quadriceps (front of thigh) Responsible for extending the knee and assists in hip flexion Rectus Femoris (crosses hip and knee),Vastus Lateralis (outer thigh) Vastus Medialis (inner thigh) Vastus Intermedius (deep under rectus femoris)
Hamstrings (back of thigh) These muscles are responsible for knee flexion and hip extension Biceps Femoris ( has a long and short head), Semitendinosis, Semimembranosus
Adductors (Inner thigh) Responsible for bring leg toward midline and stablizing thigh) Adductor longus, Adductor Brevis, Adductor Magnus, Gracilis, Pectineus
Sartorius (Thigh muscle)( assists in abduction,knee flexion, external rotation) longest muscle in the body, origin : anterior superior iliac spine, insertion : tibia
Gastrocnemius (the visible muscle gives calf it's shape)( planter and knee flexion) Medial head and Lateral head
Soleus (planter flexion) deeper flat muscle under gastrocnemius,endurance based movements
Plantaris (planter flexion considered vestigial) small thin muscle runs alongside gastrocnemius
Achilles tenden (planter flexion) the strongest and largest tendon, connects calf muscles gastrocnemius and soleus) to heel bone (calcaneus)
Rectus abdominis (6 pack)(spinal flexion) vertically down the front(crunches leg raises ab rollouts)
Eternal obliques (outer most side abs) trunk rotation ,lateral flexion ,and compression
Internal obliques (beneath external obliques) trunk rotation lateral flexion and deep core stability
Transverse abdominis (deepest core muscle) wraps like a corset, provides spinal stability poster and support
