TermDefinition
Anterior Definition: Toward the front of the body Example: The sternum is anterior to the heart
Posterior Definition: Toward the back (rear) of the body Example: The heart is posterior to the sternum
Long Bones Long bones are cylindrical bones that are longer than they are wide. They provide support, structure, and mobility to the body. Examples: Femur and Humerus
Short Bones Short bones are cube-shaped bones that provide stability and support in areas with high movement. They are found in the following locations. Example: Wrist (carpal), Ankel (tarsal)
Transverse Planes Any crosswise plane that divides the body or any of its parts into upper and lower parts
Anabolism The process of building up larger molecules
Catabolism The process of breaking down larger molecules
What is the function of the Nucleus? to store and protect the cell's genetic material (DNA), acting as the control center of the cell by regulating the cell's activities like growth, division, and protein synthesis by controlling gene expression
What are the three types of muscle tissue? skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle and smooth muscle
Distinguish the different types of epithelia of the body Squamous: Flattened and thin, like scales Cuboidal: Boxy, as wide as it is tall Columnar: Rectangular, taller than it is wide
