TermDefinition
Epimysium The muscle as a whole is covered by a coarse sheath.
Sprain An acute musculoskeletal injury to the ligamentous structures surrounding a joint that disrupts the continuity of the synovial membrane.
Intercarpal joints Points of articulation between the eight carpal bones.
ligaments Strong cords of dense white fibrous tissue at most synovial joints. They grow between bones and lash them even more firmly.
maxillae The keystone in architecture of the face just as the sphenoid bone acts as the keystone of the cranium.
cartilage Resembles bone , fibers are embedded in a firm gel instead of calcified cement substance.
osteocytes Non-dividing osteoblasts that have become surrounded by matrix and now lie within lacunae.
hypothermia The inability to maintain normal body temperature in extremely cold environments.
heat exhaustion When the body loses a large amount of fluid from heat loss mechanisms.
pyrogens The thermostatic control centers of the hypothalamus to produce a fever.
