TermDefinition
Bureaucracy a system of government in which most of the important decisions are made by state officials rather than by elected representatives.
Cabinet The advisory group selected by the president to aid him in making decisions and coordinating the work of the federal government
Administration the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and controlling of government operations.
Treaties written agreements between sovereign states
Executive privilege the authority to withhold documents in the possession of the Executive Branch from the Legislative or Judicial Branch of the government.
Courts of Appeals review challenges to court decisions to determine whether the proceedings were fair and the law was applied correctly.
Circuit courts generally handle more serious criminal cases and major civil cases
Precedent an earlier event or action that is regarded as an example or guide to be considered in subsequent similar circumstances
Original jurisdiction a court's authority to hear and decide a case for the first time before any appellate review occurs
Appeal apply to a higher court for a reversal of the decision of a lower court.
