| Step 1 - Cartilage Model Forms | -Starts 6-8 weeks after conception -Chondrocytes are created to form a model -The model is made of hyaline cartilage |
| Step 2 - Perichondrium & Periosteum | a.) Perichondrium Membrane forms b.) Perichondrium turns to bone and is now called periosteum |
| Step 3 - Primary Ossification Center | -Bloods vessel enter the diaphysis forming the ossification center -Ingredients in the blood, osteoblasts begin building osteoid -Ossification occurs from the inside-out extending toward ends of bone |
| Step 4 - Medullary Cavity | -Osteoclasts clean away some newly formed bone in the diaphysis |
| Step 5 - Secondary Ossification Center | -Around time of birth blood enters the epiphyses forming the center -Ingredients in the blood, osteoblasts begin building osteoid -Ossification occurs from the inside-out |
| Step 6 - Ossification is Complete | -Only cartilage left is the articular cartilage and the epiphyseal plates |
