The Middle Ages -The Development of England & the Development of France

QuestionAnswer
1. How was England's government evolving? The English government was evolving as the English king's goal was to hold and add to their French lands and strengthen their own power over the nobles and the Church.
2. What was one problem that happened under King John's rule? One problem that occurred under King John's rule was that he was cruel to his subjects and tried to squeeze money out of them.
3. What was the result of King John's rule? As the result of King John's rule, his nobles forced John to sign the Magna Carta to guaranteed certain basic political rights.
4. What is the model parliament? The model parliament is a parliament or legislative group of commoners, or non-nobles, as well as lords which served as a model for later kings.
5. How did France become a separate kingdom? France became a separate kingdom through the power of the king which slowly spread outward from France, where the growth of royal power would unite France.
6. How did Phillip 2 expand his power? Phillip 2 expanded his power through establishing bailiffs, that were sent from Paris to every district in the kingdom to preside over the king’s courts and to collect the king’s taxes.
7. How was democracy beginning to form again? Democracy began forming once again through the creation of common law and court systems was a first step toward increased central government power.
