Federalism a system of government in which the same territory is controlled by two levels of government
Concurrent powers powers shared by both states and the federal government
Reserved powers powers reserved to the states
Checks and balances the separation of power in the government where they keep each other in check
Constituent being a voting member of a community or organization and having the power to appoint or elect.
Bill a proposed law that requires the approval of both houses of congress and the signature of the president in order to become a law.
Interest groups :formally organized association that seeks to influence public policy.
Lobbyist communicate the views of special interest groups to lawmakers, including members of Congress
Bill of attainder legislation that imposes punishment on a specific person or group of people without a judicial trial.
Speaker of the House leads debates in the House. They decide who can speak and which amendments are discussed. The speaker also keeps order during debates and can punish members who break the House rules.
President Pro Tempore :to preside over the Senate in the absence of the vice president.
Floor leaders congresspeople who coordinate legislative initiatives and serve as the chief spokespersons for their parties on the House floor.
Pocket veto an indirect veto of a legislative bill by the president or a governor by retaining the bill unsigned until it is too late for it to be dealt with during the legislative session
Foreign policy The collection of strategies a country uses to guide its relationships with other countries.
executive agreement an agreement between the heads of government of two or more nations that has not been ratified by the legislature as treaties are ratified
Domestic policy a type of public policy overseeing administrative decisions that are directly related to all issues
