61. What is the process for how a bill becomes a law? Bill is introduced in 1 house of Congress and they vote on it. If it passes, the bill goes to the other house and they vote on it. If the bill is passed in both houses of Congress, it goes to the President to sign in to law or veto (reject).
62. What are the 3 qualifications to run for the office of US President? Must be at least 35 years old, be a natural born US citizen, US resident for at least 14 years.
63. Who approves the President's appointments? Senate
64. What are the duties (responsibilities) of the President? Can veto bills, Call Congress in to a special session, Commander-in-Chief, Receives leaders and other foreign officials, Makes treaties, Nominates the heads of executive agencies, Pardons for Federal crimes, Nominates Federal Supreme Court judges
65. According to the Constitution, who elects the President? The Electoral College
66. How is it possible for a presidential candidate to win the popular vote (the vote of the people), but not win the election? A presidential candidate must earn 270 Electoral College votes, despite popular vote totals.
67. What checks does the executive branch have on the legislative branch? The President prepares the budget (an estimate of money to be spent)
68. What checks does the executive branch have on the judicial branch? The President nominates all Supreme Court Justices
69. Who has the power to declare war? Congress; this is to make sure that the President is not using American military for tyrannical reasons.
70. How long do Supreme Court Justices serve? They serve for life or until they want to retire.
