1. What are the responsibilities of being a US citizen? Be an informed citizen and vote, participate in your community, run for office, respect the rights and property of others, respect different opinions and way of life.
2. What are the obligations of being a US citizen? Obey the law, pay taxes, defend the nation (register for selective service), and serve in court (jury duty)
3. What are the different ways you can be or become a US citizen? Law of Blood (a parent who is a citizen), Law of Soil (you were born on US soil), and the Naturalization Process.
4. What are the legal steps to become a naturalized citizen? 4. Complete an application , meet all requirements: Be at least 18 years old, a legal permanent resident for at least 5 years, have good moral character, show an understanding of US Civics on a test, and take an Oath of Allegiance.
5. What is popular sovereignty? 5. That government gets is power from the people.
6. What are the two qualifications to vote? 6. Must be a US citizen and at least 18 years old.
7. What did the Magna Carta establish? Limited government
8. Which Enlightenment thinker believed that government should serve the people? John Locke and his theory of social contract.
9. What is an autocracy? Government is ruled by one person
10. What is a monarchy? A government where a king or queen has power
