Frontal (Coronal) Plane Divides body into anterior and posterior.
Abdominal-Pelvic Cavity Contains digestive organs surrounded by peritoneum.
Parietal layer Lines the cavity walls.
Visceral layer Covers the organs.

Divides the body into superior and inferior sections. Includes cranial cavity (brain) and vertebral cavity (spinal cord).
Ventral Body Cavity Includes thoracic and abdominal-pelvic cavities.
Thoracic Cavity Chest area containing the heart and lungs.
Serous Membranes Serous membranes are thin, double-layered tissues that line body cavities and cover organs, reducing friction by secreting lubricating serous fluid.
Intermediate Between a more medial and a more lateral structure.
Pleura Serous membrane of the lungs.
Pericardium Serous membrane of the heart.
Peritoneum Serous membrane of the abdominal cavity and organs.
distal farther from the origin of a body part or the point of attachment of a limb to the body trunk
Cranial cavity brain
Vertebral cavity spinal corda
dorsal body cavity cranial and vertebral
superior mediastinum esophagus and aorta
Parietal pericardium outer layer
outer layer Parietal pericardium, Pericardial space, and Visceral pericardium
Parietal pericardium Outer layer
Pericardial space contains serous fluid, which reduces friction between the parietal and visceral layers during heart movement.
