| Cortex and Medulla | Layers of the hair; Outer and Inner Layer |
| Root and Shaft | The whole hair, below and above the scalp |
| Hair Follicle | Sac that holds the hair–living |
| Papilla | white tuft of skin on the end of the hair |
| Arrector pili muscle | goose bump muscle; attaches to hair follicle |
| Sudoriferous gland | Sweat gland; Ends on the surface of the skin |
| Sebaceous gland | Oil gland; Terminates at the hair |
| Absorption | Medications can go thru the skin |
| Excretion | Waste products leaving body thru the skin |
| Production of Vitamin D | Sunlight thru the skin to make bones stronger |

| Third Degree Burn | Three + layers of skin burned; Charred skin, no pain; 3 + weeks to heal |
| Eczema | Red itchy skin, dry skin, red patches; Tx–Prevention, avoid triggers, keep skin moisturized |
| Herpes | Virus; Type 1–Cold sores; Type 2–Genital; Tx–Antiviral, no cure, can put in remission |
| MRSA\nMethicillin–Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus | Antibiotic resistant pathogen; 1/3 people are colonized with it; Tx–stronger antibiotics |
| Scabies | Insects that bore under the epidermis; Tx–Wash items that are infected, topical creams to kill the insect |
| Squamous cell carcinoma | Skin Cancer; Grows rapidly and metastasizes to the lymph nodes; Tx–surgical removal or radiation |
| Basal cell carcinoma | Skin Cancer; Most common, least malignant; Usually on face; Tx–Surgical removal or radiation |
| Malignant Melanoma | Skin Cancer, occurs in the melanocytes; Metastasizes quickly, mole that changes quickly; Tx–Surgical removal, chemo and radiation |
| Psoriasis | Auto–immune disorder; Scaly patches on skin; Tx–immune suppressants |
| Impetigo | Highly contagious, caused by bacteria; Yellow crusty sores Tx–Antibiotics |
