What is the primary function of the alveoli in the respiratory system? The alveoli facilitate gas exchange by allowing oxygen to diffuse into the blood and carbon dioxide to diffuse out.
What is the role of the small intestine in digestion? The small intestine is responsible for nutrient absorption and further chemical digestion of food using enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the liver.
What are the three main processes involved in urine formation? The three main processes are filtration, reabsorption, and secretion.
Which gland is known as the "master gland" and why? The pituitary gland is called the "master gland" because it controls other endocrine glands and regulates critical body functions.
What are the main components of blood? Blood is composed of plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
What is the role of the sinoatrial (SA) node? The SA node, known as the heart's natural pacemaker, initiates electrical impulses that regulate the heartbeat.
What are the three main types of blood vessels, and their primary functions? Arteries carry blood away from the heart, veins return blood to the heart, and capillaries facilitate gas and nutrient exchange.
What is the function of lymph nodes? ymph nodes filter lymph, trapping pathogens and producing lymphocytes to fight infections.
What is the role of antibodies in immunity? Antibodies bind to specific antigens to neutralize or mark them for destruction by immune cells.
What is the function of the rods and cones in the retina? Rods detect light and dark, enabling vision in low light, while cones detect color and detail in bright light.
