Orientation + Direc.

TermDefinition
Superior (Cranial) towards the upper part of a structure or body
Inferior (Caudal) towards the lower part of a structure or body
Anterior (Ventral) towards the front of the body
Posterior (Dorsal) towards the back the body
Medial towards the midline of the body
Lateral away from the middle of the body
Intermediate between a medial and lateral structure
Proximal closer to the origin of the body part or the point of attachment of a limb to the body trunk
Distal farther from the origin of a body part or the point of attachment of a limb to the body trunk
Superficial (External) toward or at the body surface
Deep (Internal) away from the body surface
