Knee joint/injuries

ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) Prevents anterior (forward) movement of the tibia and hyperextension of the knee
ACL Injury Causes (ex) Suddenly slowing down and changing direction (cutting), pivoting with your foot firmly planted, landing from a jump incorrectly, stopping suddenly, receiving a direct blow to the knee or collision (football tackle)
ACL Symptoms Popping sound, swelling, pain, giving way
Long Term Consequences Lack of stability with pivoting and twisting
Tibia moves forward... could be potential ACL injury
PCL (Posterior Cruciate Ligament) to prevent the tibia from displacing posterior to the femur (hyper-flexion)
PCL Injury Causes (ex) can result from a blow to the knee while it is flexed, or bent. This includes landing hard during sports or a fall, or from a car accident
PCL Symptoms Belief of just a knee problem, swelling (mild to severe), knee pain, wobbly sensation in the knee, trouble walking or bearing weight on the knee
PCL Injury can lead to... osteoarthritis in the knee
