Excretory system

Terms of the excretory system and their definition.

TermDefinition
kidney There are two. They are bean-shaped organs that receive blood from the renal arteries and exits through the renal veins.
nephron Unit in the kidney that utilizes four processes to alter the blood which flows to it: filtration, reabsorption, secretion, and excretion.
ureter There are two. They are tubes that propel urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder.
bladder Hollow muscular organ that collects and stores urine from the kidneys before disposal by urination.
urethra Tube that connects the urinary bladder to the urinary meatus for the removal of urine from the body.
renal arteries They transport blood from the heart to the kidneys.
renal veins They transport blood from the kidneys to the heart.
