Political Party an organization that seeks to achieve power by electing its members to public office
Lawful Permanent Resident an immigrant who is legally authorized to live and work in the U.S. permanently, but is not a citizen
Undocumented Immigrant a person who has come to the US without the required legal papers
Naturalization legal process through which a person not granted citizenship by birth can become a citizen of a country
Ideology a basic set of political beliefs about the roles of government and the individual in society
Pluralism an idea that political power should be distributed and shared among various groups in a society
Liberalism an ideology favoring an active role for government in efforts to solve society's problems
Conservatism favoring a limited gov and private initiative by non - gov groups to solve problems
Civil Society associations and other voluntary groups that form a middle layer in society between government and individual families. Includes groups that people join because of family, faith, interests, or ideology
Civic and Personal Participation Personal Responsibilities: -taking care of your own health -comforting a friend -taking care of a sick family member Civic Responsibilities: -volunteering to serve the public good -Jury duty -participating in public affairs
Interest Groups any organized group whose members share a common goal and try to promote their interests by influencing government policy and decision making
