Identify the pigment that determines hair color. It is determined by the amount of pigment called melanin in hair.
How does surface film add to the protective function of the skin? maintained by secretions from the sweat and sebaceous glands, helps keep the skin supple and acts as a barrier against bacteria.
What are the two major subdivisions of the body? Axial and appendicular.
What is the importance of the term "anatomical position"? Provides a clear and consistent way of describing human anatomy and physiology.
What is the importance of ATP in the body? Acts a s neurotransmitter in both peripheral and central nervous systems.
How do acids and bases react with each other when in a solution? Leads to the formation of the corresponding salt and water. Also known as a neutralization reaction.
What important concept in biology was proposed by Schleiden and Schwann? Unified cell theory. Which states: That all living are composed of one or more cells and that cells are the basic unit of life.
What are the three main structural components of a typical cell? The cell membrane, the nucleus, and the cytoplasm.
Name the tiny branches of hard bone present in cancellous bone. They are called Trabecules.
Identify the two types of bone formations. Intramembranous and Endochondral.
