| Conservative | One who favors limited government intervention, particularly in economic affairs. |
| Exit Polls | Polls conducted as voters leave selected polling places on Election day. |
| Liberal | One who favors greater government intervention, particularly in economic affairs & in the provision of social services. |
| Libertarian | One who believes in limited government interference in personal & economic liberties. |
| Margin of Error | Measure of accuracy of a public opinion poll w/in statistical parameters. |
| Moderate | Person who takes a relatively centrist or middle of the road view on most political issues. |
| Political Ideology | Coherent set of values & beliefs ab the purpose & scope of government held by groups & individuals. |
| Political Socialization | Process through which individuals acquire beliefs & values. |
| Push Polls | Polls taken for the purpose of providing info on an opponent that would lead respondents to vote against that candidate. |
| Random Sampling | Method of poll selection that gives each person in a group the same chance of being selected. |
| Sample | A subset of the whole population selected to be questioned for the purpose of prediction of gauging opinion. |
| Sampling Error | Errors resulting from the size or the quality of a survey sample. |
| Social Conservative | One who believes that the government should support & further traditional moral teachings. |
| Straw Polls | Unscientific survey used to gauge public opinion on a variety of issues & policies. |
| Tracking Polls | Continuous surveys that enable a campaign or news organization to chart a candidate's daily or weekly rise or fall in support. |
