Introduction to the Human Body

sagittal plane divides the body lengthwise into right and left portions; the portions are equal; cut made
down the midline - called midsagittal section
frontal plane divides body into anterior(ventral) and posterior (dorsal) portions; creates a front
part and a back part the frontal part also called coronal plane
transverse plane divieds the body horizontally, creating an upper (superior) and a lower (inferior)body
when cut horizontally or transversely it is called a cross section
