Parts of the Brain

TermDefinition
Meninges Membranes between bone and soft tissue
Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) Clear liquid in brain, cushions brain and is shock absorber.
Cerebrum Wrinkly largest part of the brain- mental functions
Corpus Callosum Connects both hemispheres of the brain, transmits info from one side of the brain to the other
White Matter Myelinated axons
Grey Matter Unmyelinated axons
Fissures Deep grooves in the brain
Sulcus Shallow grooves on brain
Gyrus Elevated part of wrinkles on brain
Longitudinal Fissure Separates right and left lobes of brain
Transverse Fissure Separates cerebrum (occipital) and cerebellum
Lateral Fissure Separates temporal lobe from parietal
