| Where is the epidermis located and how many layers does it have? | It is located on the top layer of the skin and has five layers. |
| What are the five layers of the epidermis? | Stratum Corneum, Stratum Lucidum, Stratum Granulosum, Stratum Spinosum, and Stratum Basale. |
| What does the epidermis contain? | Melanocytes, Merkel cells, Langerhan cells, and keratinocytes. |
| What are merkel and langerhan cells? | They are the nerve and immune cells. |
| What is the dermis layer made up of, and what can it make? | It is made up of connective tissue and contains elastic and collagen fibers. It can make leather. |
| How many layers does the dermis have and what are they? | There are two layers and they are the papillary and reticular layers. |
| What is the papillary layer? | It is where the dermal papillae are found (fingerprints), they contain capillary loops and Meissner's corpuscles. |
| What is the function of Meissner's corpuscles? | They are the nerve function of touch. |
| What is the reticular layer? | It is where blood vessels and sweat/oil glands are located as well as Pacinian corpuscles. |
| What is the function of Pacinian corpuscles? | They are the nerve function of pressure. |
| What is special about the hypodermis? | It is not technically part of the skin. |
| What kind of layer is the hypodermis and what does it mean? | It is a subcutaneous layer and that means below the skin. |
| What is the hypodermis made of? | It is made of connective tissue, |
| What does the hypodermis contain and why? | It contains a lot of adipose (fat) tissue because it helps skin slide over muscle. |
