What are the 5 basic concepts of the US Democracy? 1. Fundamental worth of the Individual. Everyone must be respected 2. Majority and Minor Rights. Belief that Majority would be right. 3. Compromise. Sides and different Parties. 4. Individual Freedom. Does not mean Absolute Freedom. 5. Equality.
What does Legislate mean? To make Laws.
What is Legislature? Group makes laws.
What is Congress? Any group that comes together for a purpose or meeting?
What are the Terms for Congress? lasts for 2 years. Begins on Noon, January 3rd every odd number.
When was the last special session called? 1948.
How many seats in the constitution for each state? 1
How can I qualify to be in the Elections? Minimum of 25 yrs old Citizen of the US for 7 years Inhabitant of the state.
How does the Senate work? 2 per state office for 6 years Minimum of 30 years Citizen for at least 9 years.
Who is our current speaker of the house? Kevin McCarthy. Elected on January 7th 2023
Who is the current President of the Senate? Kamala Harris
How is the speaker of the house elected? elected at the beginning of each 2 yr session
What are they expected to do? to aid the majority of its party. It's legislative goals
What can the President of state not do? take the floor to speak or debate. They can only vote to break a tie. there influence only comes from other Senators.
What is Party Caucus? When is it held? A close meeting of the members of each party. Held just before Congress in January
What are Party Officers? floor leaders. They carry out decision of there parties.
What are Party Whips? serve as a link between the party leadership and it's rank and file member.
What is Expressed vs Implied? Expressed is powers given explitly and Implied is powers granted by reasonable deduction from the Expressed power.
What are the different powers in Congress? Commerce Power, Money Power, Domestic power, war power Power to investigate, Executive powers and many more
What is Commerce power? Buying and selling goods and services. vital to health and welfare
What is money powers? Power to tax.
What are Domestic powers? Postal power. Judaical power.
What are war powers? Only Congress can declare war. they can call the National guard.
What is the power to investigate. gather info necessary to framing legislation
What are Executive Powers? Made by president must be confirmed by the Senate. Gives Treaties.
What is Impeachment? Implied Power
