Superior Towards head
Inferior Away from head
Medial Toward midline
Lateral Away from midline
Deep Closer to inside
Superficial Closer to outside
Proximal Closer to point of origin/trunk
Distal Away from point of origin/trunk
Coronal plane a vertical plane which also passes through the body longitudinally, divides the body into a (anterior) and (posterior) section
Transverse plane (axial plane) a horizontal plane, divides the body into an upper (superior) section and a lower (inferior) section
Midsagittal plane vertical plane running from front to back; divides the body or any of its parts into EQUAL right and left sides.
Sagittal plane (lateral plane) vertical plane running from front to back; divides the body or any of its parts into right and left sides.
Oblique plane Passes through structure at an angle
Longitudinal section A section along the long axis of a structure (Sagittal/frontal)
Cross section A transverse cut through a structure or tissue
