| Naturalization | Process by which an alien becomes a citizen. |
| alien | A citizen of another country who lives in the United States. |
| immigrant | A person who comes to the United States from another country to settle as a permanent resident. |
| quotas | Limits placed on the number of immigrants that may enter the United States each year. |

| Melting Pot Theory | The belief that people who come into our country lose their culture and assimilate into American culture. |
