Ch 40- Venipuncture

veni-puncture

QuestionAnswer
Veni-Puncture, = opening of vein to obtain a blood sample
Additive (defined ) = any material placed in a tube that maintains or facilitates the integrity and function of a blood specimen
Aliquot (defined ) = part of a whole specimen that has been taken ---off, for use or storage
Anti-coagulant (defined) = a "chemical" in a blood sample tube that prevents clotting of blood by removing the calcium from the blood or by stopping the formation of thrombin
Buffy Coat (defined) = layer of white blood cells and platelets, that forms at the interface betwn plasma and red blood cells in a tube of blood containing an anti-coagulant
