Terms and Definitions of the Endocrine System organs.

| Oxytocin | Stimulates contraction of uterus and the milk “let down” reflex. |
| Antidiuretic Hormone | Promotes retention of water by kidneys. |
| Growth Hormone | Stimulates growth (especially of bones and muscles) and metabolism. |
| Prolactin | Stimulates milk production. |
| Follicle-Stimulating Hormone | Stimulates production of ova and sperm. |
| Luteinizing Hormone | Stimulates ovaries and testis. |
| Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone | Stimulates the thyroid. |
| Adrenocorticotropic Hormone | Stimulates adrenal cortex to secrete glucocorticoids. |
| Endocrine System | Slower than Nervous System; Works with hormones; |
| Hormones | Chemical substances that are secreted by cells into the extracellular fluids and regulate the metabolic activity of other cells in the body. |
| Chemistry of Hormones | Almost all hormones can be classified as either amino acid-based molecules (proteins, peptides, and amines) and steroids. |
| Hypothalamus | The hypothalamus is the link between the nervous system and the endocrine system through the pituitary gland; Found in the head. |
| Pituitary | Approximately the size of a grape. Hangs by a stalk from the surface of the hypothalamus. |
