Muscle contractions

Isotonic same tension or tone consists of concentric and eccentric contractions
concentric muscle produces tension while shortening
eccentric muscle produces tension while lengthening
Isometric same length; muscle produces tension with out changing length
Isokenetic muscle move through a range of motions at a constant angular speed. equipment needed. eg cybex machine
Prime movers The predominate muscle used in a particular exercise
Agonist All muscles responsible for a movement; prime movers, synergists
Antagonist oppose the prime movers and therefor relax to allow contraction
Synergists They assist the movement indirectly; stabilising joint etc
Skeletal muscle is made up of fibers called? Myofibrils
Myofibrils consist of? Thick myosin filaments and thin actin filaments
Myosin contains sites called? Cross bridges
