Muscle contractions

| Isotonic | same tension or tone consists of concentric and eccentric contractions |

| eccentric | muscle produces tension while lengthening |
| Isometric | same length; muscle produces tension with out changing length |
| Isokenetic | muscle move through a range of motions at a constant angular speed. equipment needed. eg cybex machine |
| Prime movers | The predominate muscle used in a particular exercise |
| Agonist | All muscles responsible for a movement; prime movers, synergists |
| Antagonist | oppose the prime movers and therefor relax to allow contraction |
| Synergists | They assist the movement indirectly; stabilising joint etc |
