Body: Directions

The Directions of the body.

QuestionAnswer
Synonymous with superficial. Peripheral
Pertaining to the front. Anterior
Pertaining to the back. Posterior
Situated above or towards the head. Superior
Situated below or towards the tail. Inferior
Orientated towards the midline. Medial
Orientated further from the midline. Lateral
Related to the same side of the body. Homolateral
Related to the opposite side of the body. Contralateral
Nearer to the point of reference, usually towards the trunk. Proximal
Further from the point of reverence. Distal
Pertaining to the outside surface or periphery. Superficial
Pertaining to the internals. Deep
