body cavities space that holds organs, grouped by location
2 main cavities in the body dorsal and ventral
dorsal cavity back side of body divided into the cranial (holds brain) and spinal (holds spinal cord) cavities
ventral cavity front side of the body divided into the thoracic cavity and abdominal cavity
thoracic cavity a part of the ventral cavity, holds the heart, lungs, and major blood vessels
abdominal cavity a part of the ventral cavity and holds the organs of the digestive and urinary systems
diaphragm muscle that separates the thoracic and abdominal cavities
pelvic bottom of the abdominal cavity, contains the reproductive system
