The Executive Branch

| Executive Order | a rule or regulation issued by a president or governor that has the force of law |
| Bureaucracy | a large, complex organization that functions under uniform rules and procedures |
| Administration | the president, along with his or her personal staff and advisers; also, a president’s time in office |
| Veto | the president's power to reject a law passed by Congress. |
| The White House Staff | the 400 people that work as secretaries and assistants to the president. |
| The Executive Office of the President | Office of 1800 employees that perform specialized tasks for the president. |
| Executive Departments | 15 total departments that target specific functions in the executive branch such as Agriculture, Treasury, Justice, Commerce, etc. |
| Independent Agencies | Groups that help implement federal policy but are not officially part of the Executive Branch. |
