| Nerve I | Olfactory; sensory nerve for the sense of smell |
| Nerve II | Optic; sensory nerve responsible for the sense of vision |
| Nerve III | Oculomotor; motor nerve that allows for the movement of the eyelid, eyeball, and the pupils |
| Nerve IV | Trochlear; motor nerve that allows for the movement of the eyeballs |
| Nerve V | Trigeminal; sensorimotor nerve that allows for both facial sensations and the movement of the facial muscles (e.x.: chewing) |
| Nerve VI | Abducens; motor nerve that allows for the movement of the eyeballs |
| Nerve VII | Facial; sensorimotor nerve responsible for tears, saliva, facial expressions, and the sense of taste |
| Nerve VIII | Vestibulocochlear; sensory nerve responsible for the senses of hearing and balance |
| Nerve IX | Glossopharyngeal; sensorimotor nerve responsible for swallowing, saliva, and the sense of taste |
| Nerve X | Vagus; sensorimotor nerve that controls the PNS |
| Nerve XI | Accessory; motor nerve that allows for the movement of the head, neck, shoulders, and the act of swallowing |
| Nerve XII | Hypoglossal; motor nerve that allows for movements of the tongue, speech, and the act of swallowing |
