| Epidural Space | Space located superficially to dura mater that contains fatty tissue and spinal nerve roots |
| Dura Mater | The most superficial of the meninges; a thick sheet of connective tissue that envelops the brain and protects it |
| Arachnoid Mater | The middlemost of the meninges; a clear sheet of connective tissue with spider-like appendages that holds the CSF |

| Pia Mater | The innermost of the meninges; thin sheet that produces the CSF |
| Spinal Nerve | A mixed nerve that carries multiple types of signals between the spinal cord and the rest of the body |
| Dorsal Root of Spinal Nerve | Root of the spinal nerve that transmits sensory information from the body |
| Ventral Root of Spinal Nerve | Root of the spinal nerve that transmits motor information to the body |
| Central Canal | Space in the spinal cord that carries CSF; represents the remainder of the neural tube |
| Ventral Horn | Front most protrusion of grey matter that contains cell bodies of motor neurons |
| Dorsal Horn | Protrusion on backside of grey matter that contains cell bodies of motor neurons |
| Lateral Horn | Protrusions of grey matter on the sides that contains cell bodies of motor neurons |
| Gray Commissure | Thin strip of grey matter that connects the two halves of the spinal cord |
| Anterior Column | Front most portion of white matter that contains ascending and descending tracts |
