| Term | Definition |

| Budget | a plan on how to spend money on different things |
| Cabinet | a group of people who help run the government with the President |
| Legislate | to make laws |
| Congress | the legislative branch of government where laws are made: House of Representatives and the Senate |
| Appoint | to give a job to someone |
| Bicameral | two houses--Congress consists of two houses; the House or Representatives and the Senate. |
| Bureaucracy | an organization where decisions are made with lower levels of authority. Those people are managed by higher level people that oversee them. |
| Veto | The way the President says “NO” to a Bill. |
| Committee | groups of Congress members who look into an issue and then give reports. They also work on Bills, sometimes amending them. |
| Propose | to suggest or request |
| Bill | a proposed law; a suggested law When someone wants to make a law, they write a Bill. |
