Midterm Salafism

What is Salafism? Refers to a form of fundamentalism
What do Salafists partake in? Partake in the Emulation of pious ancestors by emulating their practices and look very different from non-Salafis Muslims.
What do Salafists look like? Men wear long white gown, woman are fully covered, men have long beards
What do Salafists rely on? They rely exclusively on sources of the Qur’an and the Hadith with the goal of purifying Islam.
Features of the Salafi approach are what? Tawhid, strict reliance of Qur'an, and the rejection of sectarianism
What is Tawhid? recognition of one God
What do they reject? They reject legal precedent and new interpretation of the Qur’an as well as living modernly because Mohammad and his followers did not live this way
Salafi quietists Don’t have any political goals and one group is labeled Alloofists. They also believe the perfect Islamic society will emerge from Islamic education not politics
Salafi Islamists Believe in violence in very specific circumstances but not often and pursue Islamic political order through politics.
Salafi Islamists are influenced by who? The Muslim brotherhood
Salafi Jihadists Are politically active and believe they must engage in violence to create a united Islamic society
Examples of Salafi Jihadists? Isis, Al-Qaeda, and Taliban
