| Declaration of Independence | *Stated our grievances (complaints) against the King of England *Affirmed (to state as fact) our inalienable rights of life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness *Affirmed all people are created equal *Declared our independence from Great Britain |
| Articles of Confederation | *First form of national government & first time we were officially the United States of America *Created a weak central government that had no power to tax or enforce laws *Each state had its own military, printed/coined money, and laws |
