| Iliacus | Flat triangular muscle which fills the iliac fossa |
| Psoas Major | Long fusiform muscle in lateral lumbar region that is part of the hip flexors, lifting the upper leg towards the body |
| Ilioposoas | The iliacus and the psoas major join to fuse this muscle |
| Gluteus Maximus | One of the three gluteal muscles and one of the largest muscles in the body; the main extensor muscle of the hip; forms the prominence of the buttocks |
| Gluteus Medius | One of the three gluteal muscles, which helps to move the hip |
| Priformis | Pear shaped muscle that is one of the muscles in the lateral rotator group; helps to rotate the femur |
| Tensor Faciae Latae | Muscle of the thigh that keeps the balance of the pelvis |
| Rectus Femoris | Part of the anterior compartment and one of the four quadriceps muscles. Fusiform muscle that flexes the thigh at the hip and to extend the leg at the knee |
| Vastus Lateralis | Part of the anterior compartment and one of the four quadriceps muscles. The most powerful out of the quadriceps, it extends the knee joint. |
| Vastus Medialis | Part of the anterior compartment and one of the four quadriceps muscles. Looks a bit like a teardrop and extends the knee. |
| Vastus Intermedius | Part of the anterior compartment and one of the four quadriceps muscles. It is one of the deeper of the four, and flexes the hip and extends the knee. |
| Sartorius | Part of the anterior compartment. A long, thin, superficial muscle that runs down the thigh and is more of a synergist muscle that helps a main agonist muscle |
| Gracilis | Part of the medial compartment. The most superficial of the medial thigh; flattened, and adducts, medially and laterally rotates, and flexes the hip |
| Adductor Longus | Part of the medial compartment. Adducts the thigh. |
| Adductor Magnus | Part of the medial compartment. A large triangular muscle that adducts the thigh |
| Biceps Femoris | Part of the hamstring group. Consists of both a short and a long head, and extends the hip and flexes the knee. |
| Semimembranosus | Part of the hamstring group. Has a flat tendon of origin and extends the hip and flexes the knee. |
| Semitendinosus | Part of the hamstring group. Has a very long tendon of insertion and extends the hip and flexes the knee. |
