Neck Muscles

Sternocleidomastoid Long superficial muscle that helps in active breathing and the rotation and flexion of the neck
Digastric anterior belly Muscle of the suprahyoid group; stabilizes the hyoid when swallowing and helps to open the jaw
Digastric posterior belly Muscle of the suprahyoid group; along with the anterior belly, it opens the jaw
Omohyoid superior belly Muscle of the infrahyoid group; along with the inferior belly, it depresses the hyoid bone and larynx
Thyrohyoid Muscle of the infrahyoid group; depresses hyoid bone and elevates larynx
Levator Scapulae Muscle on the side and back of the neck that elevates the scapulae
Splenius Capitis Muscle on the back of the neck that pulls on the base of the skull and is involved in movements like shaking the head
Stylohyoid Muscle of the suprahyoid group; functions to move the hyoid backwards and elevates the tongue
Omohyoid inferior belly Muscle of the infrahyoid group; along with the superior belly, it depresses the hyoid bone and larynx
