| free enterprise | economic system in which individuals and businesses are allowed to compete for profit with a minimum of government interference |
| individualism | the unique importance of each individual |
| laissez-faire | policy that government should interfere as little as possible in the nation's economy |
| limited government | government structure in which government actions are limited by law |
| liberal | open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values |

| rule of law | principle that the law applies to everyone, even those who govern |
