Anatomy
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Anterior | toward the front of the body or body part. |
| Posterior | toward the back of the body or body part. |
| Superior | Above or uppermost part of the body structure. |
| Inferior | Below or lowermost part of the body strucutre. |
| Medial | toward or nearest the midline of the body. |
| Lateral | Away from the midline of the body or to the side. |
| Proximal | Nearest the attachment of an appendage or toward the trunk. |
| Distal | Away from the point of attachment or away from the trunk. |
| Superficial | At the surface. |
| Deep | Below the surface or inward. |
| Parietal | Pertains to the outer layer or wall. |
| Visceral | Pertains to the covering of an organ. |
| Cranial | Refers to the head. |
| Caudal | Refers to the tail. |
| Inter | In-between. |
| Intra- | Inside. |
| Mid- | In the middle. |
| Bilateral Symmetry | Having mirror image halves. |
