Econ/Gov Chapter 2

quizlet is stoopid

QuestionAnswer
Why colonists signed DOI: For the right to bring their legal cases before independent judges, rather than those subordinate to the king, to be free of British troops courted in their homes, and pay no taxes goaded by British Parliament.
Unalienable Rights Rights that are God-given. Rights based upon nature and providence , not the whims of people. John Locke: "life, liberty, and property."
Ideas that started the Revolution: Rejection of royal rule-> legitimate government required consent of governed. Radical change in ppl (specifically in what could make political authority legitimate and personal liberties secure). DOI sparked ppl's ambitions here.
AOC state relationships: "League of Friendship" Didn't need to listen to national law. Army was weak and there was little to coin if any. No judicial system to settle claims of land for the West and 13/13 votes were needed to change the AOC. 9/13 needed to pass ANY measure.
